The new Shrine of Remembrance Education Centre is accommodating a growing demand for the Shrine's educational services across all levels of the Victorian curriculum. The Education Centre and its associated programs aid awareness of Australian military history and assist young Victorians to remember and honour our ex-service community. There is a strong emphasis on Values Education throughout all programs.
Programs include:
VIETNAM: 2 HOUR PROGRAM Suitable for VCE students. Students explore factual, visual and historical information associated with the Vietnam War in an emotional realm. They look at conscription as well as the psychological and welfare issues affecting veterans and their comrades upon their return to Australia. Comprehensive preparatory material is available at www.shrine.org.au/education. VCE WWI and WWII kits are also available online.
THE FUTURE OF THE PAST: 2 HOUR PROGRAM Suitable for Middle Year students (510) This Values Education Program focuses on the spirit of the ANZACs. VELS components, Visual Literacy and Thinking Curriculum activities enhance this program enabling all students to participate at their own level.
ACTIVE CITIZENSHIP / MULTICULTURALISM: 1 HOUR PROGRAMSuitable for Year 3 5 students With over 100 nationalities represented in Australia, students are asked to consider the question, 'Does the Shrine of Remembrance have a place in a multicultural Australia?' This program focuses on core values through active citizenship and multicultural inclusion and students will learn how friendships and loyalties change over time, looking at journeys from confl ict to co-operation. LOYAL FRIENDS: 1 HOUR PROGRAM Suitable for Prep Year 2 students
This Values Education and VELS-linked program identifies important human qualities by looking at the service of animals during war time and peacekeeping. This literacy based unit incorporates story telling and follow up 'hands-on' literacy activities. All programs include an interactive tour of the Shrine and do not incur a fee but donations are gratefully accepted. Travel assistance is also available to schools who meet the criteria. Bookings are essential.
