Transport your students back to the 1860’s and learn about Echuca Moama’s origin story…
The Port of Echuca Discovery Centre provides a unique classroom, where you can explore the legend of Australia’s pioneering spirit. Through tours, interactive displays and working steam exhibits, learn how Australia’s inland river system connected a fledgling colony to its growing cities and the outside world.
PADDLESTEAMER CRUISES
Echuca has a long and proud tradition of building and restoring paddlesteamers, with more than 100 paddlesteamers having been built here. Today, we offer the experience of being close to the mighty Murray River aboard our fleet of steam-driven paddlesteamers
SCHOOL EXCURSION EDUCATION PROGRAM
Our Education Program provides the perfect hands-on approach to learning, engaging students in a replica old-fashioned classroom. Focussed on presenting how school life would have been like for children in the 1850’s-1900’s, we explore the life of Echuca’s founder – Henry Hopwood. Once the strict teacher is satisfied with the day’s learnings, there are a variety of fun games to play that have been handpicked from the era. Echuca Primary School 208 said “the Program is completely engaging for the kids and adults”.
GUIDED TOURS
If you’re after more information and less fun & games, then the Port of Echuca Discovery Centre’s guided tour is the best choice for your school group. Our tour guides will teach your students about the history and importance of the river trade, whilst pointing out interesting exhibits and artefacts along the way. Pair it with our Education Program for the full educational experience.
PORT AFTER DARK
Another tour, a different story. Journey the Port of Echuca in the dead of night (if you dare) to discover dark secrets of the past. Equipped with lanterns, our tour guide will lead your students through the nooks and crannies of the Port Precinct – whilst telling stories of misfortune and unexplained happenings.
