Mikkira Station is a privately owned property located 25km South of the town of Port Lincoln on the tip of Eyre Peninsula in South Australia.

The last 15 kms of the road access is unsealed (off Fishery Bay Road, Sleaford).

The road varies in condition but is usually ok for 2WD if you go carefully and watch out for wildlife.

While several Tour Operators often include a visit to Mikkira to see the wild koalas in the trees as part of their itinerary,

It is only open to the public to visit or camp during the wetter winter months (May til October) due to the risk of bushfire in summer.

Winter visitors can purchase a permit and hire a key to the padlocked gate from

Visit Port Lincoln Accommodation Shop 1 Jobomi House 50 Liverpool Street, Port Lincoln (opposite Coles Supermarket Carpark),

Or book ahead online visitportlincolnaccommodation.net.au and collect your key from the instruction in their email.

Cost is $30 per vehicle for up to 24 hours. There are 2 flush toilets with septic tank and one hot shower, plenty of fresh water, and a open shelter shed.

You can have a campfire if it is in a container up off the ground and bring your own firewood.

There is 600 acres of bushland to roam, plenty of kangaroos, koalas, emus, reptiles, parrots and other birdlife, interesting trees and rare flora and fungi.

There are old stone sheepyards, ruins and a museum cottage to get a feel for what life in the 1840s used to be like.

Visitors and campers can bring their own camping accommodation, or caravan but there are sturdy canvas campers with beds in them already onsite that you can rent at very reasonable price. You will need to bring your food supplies etc, There is no electricity and phone reception is patchy in places.

It is a place that needs to be respected and protected, the koalas are not to be disturbed, nor the trees they live in, the fallen wood needs to stay fallen, and all rubbish needs to be taken back home with you. Dogs are strictly prohibited, as are children driving around off the tracks in cars or trailbike riding. Bicycles and horses are welcome.
