LightFoot Camps offer visitors a real taste of sustainable living as they explore their relationship with the natural world. Programs include Lightfoot Connection Camps for primary children, Creativity Camps, Year 7 Orientation Program, Year 9 and Year 11Ecology, Senior Geography, Day Trips for all ages, self-run retreats and camps for all ages. Innovative environmental education activities enable visitors to connect head, heart and hands as they come to a deeper appreciation of their role as custodians of the Earth.
Wangat Lodge is a mud-brick environmental education centre for up to 57 people, on a forested Wildlife Refuge 22 km north from Dungog. We are located 1 hours from Newcastle and 3 hours from Sydney. Facilities include comfortable bunk-rooms for students with adjoining teachers cottage, communal lounge, table tennis, volleyball, verandah, outdoor teaching areas and forested trails. Within walking distance are safe swimming-holes on the Chichester River and pristine rainforest areas of Barrington Tops National Park. Idyllic!
Leadership is by naturalists with a long familiarity with the Australian bush and wildlife and its safe enjoyment by visitors. Wangat staff share an infectious enthusiasm for nature and are renowned for their special rapport with young people. We have an excellent track record for safety and for providing high-quality camp experiences.
Teachers have a vital supportive and pastoral role, but the whole program, day and night, is run by Wangat Lodge staff.
Excellent facilities are provided for do-it-yourself cooking, or we can provide quality catering.
