The Eureka Centre explores the cultural impact of the gold rush and tells the stories of the men and women who risked their lives in the fight for miners’ rights. Located at the historic site of the 1854 Eureka Stockade, the Eureka Centre is home to one of Australia’s most iconic cultural objects - the Eureka Flag (The Flag of the Southern Cross).
Eureka Education
The Eureka Centre encourages young people to engage with Australia’s colonial history through Eureka Education. We provide teachers and students with tools and experiences to deepen their understanding of the Eureka Stockade and the profound political reforms this event affected on Australian society.
Led by professional educators, each program gives students and teachers the opportunity to view the iconic, original Eureka Flag and explore the interactive Eureka Stockade exhibition.
The programs are designed to deliver curriculum outcomes in History, Civics & Citizenship and English and to develop critical and creative thinking skills. The programs can be delivered to students in Early Childhood, Primary, Secondary and VCAL settings.
Education visits to the museum can be adapted to meet the specific curriculum needs of individual groups. Speak to our Education Officer to discuss tailoring programs that will better compliment and extend your classroom learning.
