Cooks Cottage was built in Yorkshire, England in 1755 by the parents of the famous navigator Captain James Cook. It was transported to Melbourne in crates and barrels, re-assembled and officially opened in Victoria in 1934.
Cooks Cottage combines modern interpretations of Captain Cooks life and adventures with centuries old furnishings, and a vibrant, colourful English cottage garden. The educational program at Cooks Cottage takes students on a "voyage of discovery" as they learn about Captain Cook's life and in particular his finaleight years at sea and the importance of his voyage aboard the Endeavour to Australia's history. Students are also invited to explore the culture, food and way of life for people in 18th century England and compare this to present day life.
