Educational School Camps Fraser Island

Fraser Island is the natural choice for an immersive and educational experience for all ages. This UNESCO World Heritage-listed landscape is comprised of ancient dune systems, a diverse range of flora and fauna and an abundance of freshwater lakes just waiting to be explored.

From guided day trips and excursions to school camps by the sea let Kingfisher Bay Resort Groups experienced Ranger Guides pass on their knowledge and tailor an itinerary to suit your needs. Our expert guides are passionate about:

  • Geography
  • Biology
  • History and Culture
  • Marine Studies
  • Ecotourism and Hospitality
  • Leadership and Team Building

Fraser Island holds rich indigenous and cultural history. Recognised as a World Heritage-listed site in 1992 and the waters surrounding the island were recently given the title of the World’s First Whale Heritage Site, making the island an immersive hub for students.

  • Learn about the animal kingdom, with whales, dugongs, dolphins, birds, dingoes, reptiles, amphibians and fish calling the island home – even bring a torch for overnight excursions and spot some of the nocturnal species!
  • Admire the soaring satinay trees that were once used to rebuild the London Docks after World War II.
  • Embark on an array of walks and talks with our Rangers! Wander through the wallum and, discover wildlife along the western beach (soldier crabs), or learn about marine ecosystems as you explore the magnificent mangroves.
  • Taste the flavours of Australia and sample some traditional bush tucker, found right here on Fraser Island. Discover how our bush provided foods and medicine for the native indigenous Butchulla people, and how these ingredients can be used in everyday life.
  • Experience a guided canoe paddle and learn about marine life along the western coast of Fraser Island, included within the Great Sandy Biosphere.

Making your way onto the sand tracks has never been easier. Fraser Explorer Tours custom-designed 4WD buses are built to handle the sand tracks with air-conditioned comfort. While out and about on island there is plenty to see and do:

  • Discover pristine rainforests, with Kauri pines, giant king ferns and towering palms in abundance. It’s the only place in the world where rainforests grow from the sand, at elevations of 200m.
  • Learn about the island’s formation, as you trek across shifting sands of the Hammerstone Sandblow, to the emerald green oasis of Lake Wabby.
  • Drive up the famous 75 Mile Beach, witness the multi-coloured sands of The Pinnacles and discover the historic hull of the Maheno Shipwreck.
  • Visit some of Fraser Island’s freshwater lakes including iconic Lake McKenzie (there’s more than 100 lakes recorded!)

It’s all about nature on Fraser Island, giving your school group the opportunity to take time out of the classroom for an eco-adventure.
