Discover … • An exciting new Discovery Room, opening mid-year, filled with interactive spaces from Australia’s wartime experience. Crawl through a muddy trench, climb aboard a submarine, fly a helicopter in Vietnam, work in a home front backyard, or be challenged by a peacekeeping scenario. • Dynamic new programs with role plays, discussions, and hands-on items. • True stories that inspired the exhibits and illustrate the Australian experience of war. Imagine … • Life in wartime: students can handle objects from our collection and dress up in uniforms worn by servicemen and nurses. • An operation over Berlin in December 1943: Striking by night – Lancaster “G for George” integrates objects, sound, and light to re-create this event. This show occurs hourly in ANZAC Hall. • The night in 1942 when Japanese midget submarines entered Sydney Harbour: a dramatic sound-and-light show, Sydney under attack, re-lives the event. This show occurs throughout the day. • Life in wartime through character performances. Remember … • Participate in a school wreathlaying ceremony and lay a wreath on the Tomb of the Unknown Australian Soldier. These are held on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings; bookings are essential. • Find a name on the Roll of Honour in the Commemorative Area. • Join us for the closing ceremony on any day. This often features a live bugler or piper, Australia’s Federation Guard, or other closing ceremonies for special anniversaries.
